I love details. Well, I should say I love shooting and filming details.
One of my favorite people that's so talented at that is Beth Helmstetter. She came through town a while back and I shot a babyshower for her that was featured on Hostess with the Mostess. It's a really incredible blog with great ideas for entertaining.
Swing on by here and check out some of the wonderful details that Beth brings to an event, and get some ideas for your next party.

It's always fun for me when a couple is so in love they live in their own little world together and communicate without speaking. That is Leah and Pete. A couple weeks before their wedding I shot their engagement pictures and saw how they are around each other. I gave them little or no direction for each shot because it was too much fun to just watch them [be] together. They would almost forget I was there and the smiles, laughter and moments would happen as I clicked the shutter.
I knew their wedding would be just as fun to shoot. Their families, friends and bridal party were all such a blast to be around all day. Leah's flower girl was so excited about her role that for months leading up to the wedding she would tell anyone that came over "do you want to see my dress? I'm going to be the flower girl in my Aunt Leah's wedding!"

July 11th was their day to make it official. Ryan and I arrived early at the Loretto and documented their entire day with photos and video. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the day. You'll notice about half way down a shot of the flower girl leaving the ring bearer behind. The picture that follows was his disappointment with her not following directions.
If you are a friend or family member from the wedding, click here and you can see the rest.

I've been playing around with adding more and more audio into my edits lately. I usually use audio from the vows in the Wedding Day Montage at the end of my wedding videos, but I've been playing with adding it into the getting ready & first sight portions of the video too.
Andy + Melissa are such a fun couple and have excellent taste in music. In fact, their music choices inspired a completely different edit than I normally do. That's a tip for those of you looking to have wedding videography - your music really changes the feel of your video. If you look back a post or two in my blog to Jeff & Brooke's you can see how a slower song feels compared to this one. Different portions of the video need faster or slower music though too, in my opinion.
So - here's just the very first few minutes of Andy & Melissa's wedding video. It was all the shots we did of them getting ready and preparing to see each other for the first time that day.
The photography was done by the FABULOUS Jessica Roark at Epaga Foto - www.epagafoto.com - I may post more on this wedding later, but here's a glimpse -

Jen Mills:
mike - that was amazing. i love the detail - the editing - the story you told for them - love the voice clips - love it, love it, love it! you got it for them for the REST OF THEIR LIVES - when marriage gets ugly and dinner is burnt and they are tired - they can watch and remember and be inspired again!

This is one of my favorite images from this year. I get a lot of compliments on it, so I wanted to take a second and tell the story behind it.
Travis and Lisa decided to see each other before their ceremony to get some relaxed portraits done in the Crossroads District in downtown Kansas City. They met upstairs in the Arts Incubator where their ceremony took place in front of a large window where they had shared a moment on their first date.
For a "first sight" moment I like to give the couple time to see each other and shoot from a distance. This moment happened after they had seen each other and was not posed, it just happened, which is how I always shoot. I don't do a lot of posing people or telling them what to do unless they really need direction. I find that my clients are comfortable enough in front of me to just be themselves as a couple and the pictures just happen naturally.
