For years now I've done video production for Ben's dad.
About two weeks ago he called and told me how Ben + Beth had gotten married in Omaha, but were having a reception at home in Kansas City. I happened to have the night open and went by for some party pictures.
Piropos catered the event and the food was fantastic! Baby Cakes sent over the most amazing cupcakes I've ever had (sorry Mom) and Gerald Dunn led some of the most incredible Jazz musicians I've heard live (that close up).

My great friend Jenaé invited me along to second shoot this unbelievable wedding a couple weekends ago.
Ok, Mike, unbelievable? Yes. Unbelievable. This was the most laid back, relaxed couple I think I've ever been around. Nothing was rushed and it was the most beautiful setting for an outdoor wedding - The Circle S Ranch in Lawrence, KS.
The colors of the dresses, flowers, fields and the light were the perfect combination of unbelievable - and there were some buffalo in the field which I haven't seen since Dances with Wolves. (Wait... do you say buffalo? or buffalos?) Let's just say there were more than one of them.
Brooke + David both interned at Heartland a few years back and Tom Brawner was the pastor for their ceremony. He's one of the coolest guys I've seen lead a ceremony.
This was Jenaé's wedding, so I got to have all the fun catching what was going on in the background or different angles on what she was shooting. She is so great to shoot with because she's so relaxed all day and full of great energy while she makes awesome pictures. She and I share the same style in letting a couple just [be] and not interrupt them while they have a moment together for some relaxed portraits. No posing, just, "hey let's go hang out over here," and then let them be - swing by her blog to see more of her work!

It's always fun for me when a couple is so in love they live in their own little world together and communicate without speaking. That is Leah and Pete. A couple weeks before their wedding I shot their engagement pictures and saw how they are around each other. I gave them little or no direction for each shot because it was too much fun to just watch them [be] together. They would almost forget I was there and the smiles, laughter and moments would happen as I clicked the shutter.
I knew their wedding would be just as fun to shoot. Their families, friends and bridal party were all such a blast to be around all day. Leah's flower girl was so excited about her role that for months leading up to the wedding she would tell anyone that came over "do you want to see my dress? I'm going to be the flower girl in my Aunt Leah's wedding!"

July 11th was their day to make it official. Ryan and I arrived early at the Loretto and documented their entire day with photos and video. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the day. You'll notice about half way down a shot of the flower girl leaving the ring bearer behind. The picture that follows was his disappointment with her not following directions.
